About Snowden 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon, Brothers Vyd., Napa Valley

The Snowden ranch lies on the eastern slopes of the Napa Valley overlooking the towns of Rutherford and St. Helena. Premium wine grapes have been farmed on the property since it was homesteaded in 1878. The Snowdens came to the ranch in 1955. All of the wines are produced exclusively from fruit grown on the property. The Brothers Vineyard is an 11 acre Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard located on a relatively flat plateau at the top of the first row of mountains on the east side of the Napa Valley. The elevation ranges from approximately 800 to 850 feet. The soil is a remarkably uniform volcanic rhyolite. The western portion of the Brothers Vineyard is called "Palomino Hill." Palomino Hill has been producing premium wine grapes for over 130 years and has proven to be the best terroir on the property for Cabernet Sauvignon. Fermented entirely with natural yeasts and aged 18 months in French Oak, 50% new, Antonio Galloni scored this 2013 94+ saying " Explosive and powerful to the core, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon The Brothers presents dark tonalities of fruit along with distinctly savory and mineral notes. Grilled herbs, smoke, lavender and pencil shavings add nuance. The Brothers is dark, powerful and brooding in style, not to mention more structured than the Ricos Cabernet, accordingly, it needs a few years to fully come together." and Robert Parker scored it 95 points saying "The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Brothers Vineyard is ample with sweet tannin and notes of licorice, blackcurrants, graphite and earth. It is dense, powerful, yet at the same time well-balanced and pure, and exceptionally well-crafted. Give it several years of bottle age and drink it over the following 10-20 years."
