About Champ De Reves 2013 Pinot Noir, Anderson Valley

California's Anderson Valley stands as one of the most beautiful winegrowing regions anywhere on earth, a dramatic landscape marked by steep hillsides, ancient groves, and fog-laden mornings. Jackson Family was compelled to cultivate Pinot Noir here, and have been inspired by the results, from their vineyards high over the valley. Situated at a lofty elevation (1,300-2,000 feet) above Boonville, the Champ de Rêves vineyard site features a patchwork of small blocks planted to seven different Pinot Noir clones. Decomposed sandstone provides superb drainage and mineral uptake while naturally restricting vine vigor and yields. A dream of a Pinot Noir vineyard, its continued evolution will confer greater complexity to the wines with each new vintage. This 2013 was aged 9 months in 32% new French oak barrels. Wine Enthusiast Magazine, seeing the aging potential in this bold Pinot made it a Cellar Selection. They scored it 91 points saying "This full-bodied wine smells like black pepper and light wood smoke, and tastes rugged but fruity as blackberry blends with woodsy notes. A dose of tannin provides grip in the texture, and good balance bodes well for mid-term aging. Best after 2019."
