Best vintage since 1947?? James Suckling just wrote that winemakers in Beaujolais are making that claim "a hot and dry year producing powerfully rich and long-lived wines." This was one of his top scoring selections, it's a single domaine bottling from the master, Georges Duboeuf. For many years Duboeuf has worked with small producers, fine-tuning their wines and estate bottling the entire lot as unique boutique offerings. The Domaine Des Rosier is just such a producer owned by Gerard Chervet. He has a 50 acre vineyard at high altitude and Duboeuf has bottled his entire production since 1976. For this wine harvest is done manually. Fermentation is with whole bunches, unstemmed and indigenous yeasts Maceration lasts between 10-14 days. Suckling scored this 95 points saying "This is a serious Beaujolais that exhibits plums, orange peel, spices and cedar on the nose. Reminiscent of a pinot noir. Full-bodied, chewy and powerful with ripe tannins and a long and flavorful finish. Structured. Better in 2020."
