About I Vasari 2011 Old Vine Montepulciano D'Abruzzo, Fratelli Barba

This is a wine that's won multiple Tre Bicchieri awards and why not not since it's vinified by celebrated 100 point winemaker Stephano Chioccioli. This is a limited production Old Vine Montepulciano from Fratelli Barba, grapes for I Vasari are sourced from a single hillside vineyard overlooking the sea in the "Colline Teramane" considered the finest growing area for Montepulciano in the entire region. The vines in the vineyard average 30+ years of age and consulting enologist Chioccioli saw the potential of these low-yield grapes right away. He worked very carefully to produce this rich, complex red with temperature controlled fermentation and 14 months of aging in French oak barrels. Only 1,000 cases were produced. Vinous Media scored this 92 points saying "Inky ruby. Sweet spices, plum jam and a note of coffee reduction on the complex nose. Bright and fresh on the palate, with mouthwatering acidity lifting the red and darker fruit flavors. The long finish features hints of plum jam, mint and underbrush. This was aged for 16 months in barriques." On SALE!!
