About Cask 23 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, Stag's Leap Wine Cellars

Perhaps the most iconic of all Napa Valley wines Cask 23 is the evolution of the wine that took the world by storm, beating out the great First Growth Bordeaux in the famous Judgment in Paris Tasting in May 1976. A clear measure of it's status, Cask 23 was the first Napa Valley Cab to break the $100 retail price point as dozens of course have since followed. This 2013 is another classic; a tale of two vineyards that come together in a harmonious blend. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon fruit was sourced equally from the FAY and S.L.V. vineyards, specific blocks within these adjoining ranches providing distinct attributes to the wine. Each lot was vinified and aged separately in small French oak barrels for 21 months. In the latter stages of aging the lots were blended, becoming CASK 23. Wide acclaim for this 2013 including Robert Parker, who scored it 99 points saying "The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Cask 23 ratchets up the level of complexity, richness and density. Magnificent floral notes intermix with blueberry, blackberry and cassis, and there is no hint of new oak. A full-bodied opulence on the palate, great purity and personality make for a prodigious example of Cabernet Sauvignon to drink over the next 30+ years. Kudos to Stags Leap Wine Cellars."
