About Archimedes 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon, Alexander Valley, Francis Ford Coppola

At the 14th annual Critics Challenge International Wine & Spirits Competition the 2013 Archimedes, with the top score of 98 points, was given the Directors Award for Wine of the Year and the Francis Ford Coppola Winery was named Winery of the Year for its superb performance across the board. Francis Ford Coppola's flagship Sonoma Cab, Archimedes is crafted from small lots of Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from prime Alexander Valley vineyards and produced in very limited quantity for the true connoisseur. Archimedes matures in barrels for 18 months in order to achieve a high degree of tannin development, flavor integration, and textural refinement. 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petite Verdot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 4% Malbec aged in 50% new French oak barrels. Robert Parker scored it 94 points saying "The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Archimedes from Alexander Valley has the most imposing dense bluish/purple color of this grouping. Beautiful blueberry and black raspberry notes with hints of graphite and spice box jump from the glass of this full-bodied, stunningly rich and well-proportioned Cabernet Sauvignon that should drink gracefully for 25 or more years. It is clearly the showstopper in the six wines I tasted from Coppola. It can be drunk now or cellared for up to another 25 years." and with a 98 point score the Critics Challenge Competition wrote "This is one of the finest Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignons you are likely to find, an impressive effort from a stunning vintage and an up-and-coming producer. Richly layered with aromas of red and black fruits, the 2013 Archimedes delivers heft and power without losing elegance. The palate is plush, with silky tannins, and the warmth and spiciness of the oak is an enhancement rather than a distraction."
