Chapoutier is well known in the Rhone Valley for producing some of the best wines in the entire region year after year. This wine is always one of the best values in the Chapoutier lineup. 100% Syrah, with the extremely low yield fruit from their vineyards that are all farmed biodynamically. Michel Chapoutier does his magic to produce an incredible wine filled with spice, resin, minerals and black fruit flavors that drinks like a wine in much higher category of price. Tasted from barrel, Antonio Galloni's Vinous scored this 89-91 and said"Brilliant ruby. Smoke-accented aromas of blackberry, licorice and botanical herbs, lifted by a peppery nuance. Chewy cassis, cherry and licorice flavors show a touch of medicinal bitterness and sweeten up slowly with aeration. Very primary and slow to unwind, displaying a good balance of depth and vivacity. Closes with repeating smokiness, firming tannins and good, spicy persistence."
