About Chateau de France 2014 Pessac Leognan, Bordeaux Red

The cellars and the chateau of Chateau de France were built at the end of the 17th century. The modern era for Chateau de France begins in 1971, when the estate was purchased by Bernard Thomassin who carried out extensive restorations and renovations to make the property a modern state-of-the-art winery. The 96 acre vineyard is not far from Chateau de Fieuzal with similar terroir; gravel, limestone and clay soils and are ideal for growing red grapes, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. All the fruit is picked entirely by hand. The wine is vinified in temperature controlled, stainless steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation takes place in vat. This 2014 is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot aged in 40% new French oak barrels for 13 months before bottling. Wine Enthusiast Magazine after tasting this from barrel scored it 94-96 saying "This dark and brooding wine is packed with dense tannins and a black plum-skin flavor that's hovering behind the density. The wine has power and fine concentration, yielding a complex, solid wine with aging ability."
