About Maxville Lake 2014 Petite Sirah, Napa Valley

Maxville Lake is nestled deep in the Chiles Valley District of Napa Valley. The property was first planted to grape vines in 1974; today Maxville has over 100 acres of vineyard, of sustainably farmed Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Petite Sirah. The volcanic soils these vines are planted in provide a prime growing condition for luxury wines. This Petite Sirah underwent a 5-day cold-soak followed by a warm fermentation. The tannic nature of the grape doesnt lend to extended maceration and only the free-run juice was used for the final wine. Malo-lactic fermentation was done in barrel; the wine was racked once post-malo and once pre-bottling. The wine spent 18 months in French oak barrels, 50% new. Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored this 93 points and said "This is a newly released wine, sultry and peppery, with lip-smacking waves of blackberry and raspberry, bold and brooding and ultimately delicious. Full-bodied, it finds balance between its velvety texture and spikes of black pepper and leather."
