    The AuburnJames Winery was born in 2005 with the first crush of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from the Raywood Vineyard in Napa Valley and a handshake between Matthew Ospeck and winemaker James Frost. These two men share a passion for artisan winemaking, and are committed to a process that is, for the most part, conducted by hand. Together, they are intent on producing small lots of award winning Bordeaux style Napa Valley wines that are designed specifically for the AuburnJames wine club membership. Wine Express is lucky enough to have garnered a small lot of this prime Napa juice that ordinarily is only available to their club members. This beautiful right-bank Bordeaux style Napa Valley wine is inspired from the once famous Auburn Phaeton, and the mimics the sleek and elegant yet powerful style of the original 1934 vehicle whose namesake it is adorned with. The sophistication of the wine is based in the rich and sumptous Napa Valley Merlot, complimented by the structure of the powerful Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. Utilizing the other 3 Bordeaux varietals, this wine strikes a balance of luxury and power wrapped up in a classically blended red wine. This wine showcases black currant, ripe blackberry, juicy plum, and raspberry tones with dusty cocoa and soft hints of vanilla outlined by French oak barrel spice. The tannins are very present due to the pronounced style of the 2012 vintage, yet come through as a velvety smooth mouthfeel leading into a long, lingering finish that continues for minutes after the last sip. This wine is showing very well now, but will easily lay in a cellar for the next 5-7 years with ease. A blend of 40% Merlot, 27% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Malbec, 10% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot. A medal winner in the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. Don't miss it!!
