Back in 1976 Freemark Abbey Cabernet was one of the wines in the famous Judgment in Paris Tasting. It's been a Napa Valley staple for decades and today Freemark Abbey is owned by the Jess Jackson family and has a renewed focus and vitality. Robert Parker just wrote "Freemark Abbey has hit pay dirt big-time, with plenty of terrific offerings that are being released now and early in 2016. Winemaker Ted Edwards seems to go from strength to strength and readers looking for top-flight Napa wines priced under $50.00 need to check out several of these immediately, as I'm sure they'll be huge crowd-pleasers." This 2013 Cabernet is a blend of 75.1% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10.9% Merlot, 5.9 % Petit Verdot, 4.9% Cabernet Franc and 3.2% Malbec aged 26 months in 40% new oak, mostly French. Wine Review online scored this a big 96 points saying "Just barely falling into the varietal category with 75.1% Cabernet Sauvignon, this is a less expensive alternative to the spectacular 2013 Bosch that nearly matches it in quality. It's deeply expressive, with all that you'd expect from a classic Napa Valley red -- Blackberry, cassis, vanilla, spice, faint dried herbs, full throttle delivery of the nose elements over fine grained tannins and a supple grip that carries a very long, beautifully integrated finish. Decant well or age 10 to 15 years. Another gorgeous wine from Ted Edwards."
