About Barolo 2013 Le Vigne, Sandrone

Although a relative newcomer, Luciano Sandrone has become a legendary producer of Barolo. The Wine Advocate said "Luciano Sandrone is one of the leading lights in Piedmont. No grower has managed to so brilliantly reconcile modern and traditional approaches in making wines that are soft, supple and approachable when young, but also capable of aging beautifully." Le Vigne is Sandrone's Barolo made by assembling the Nebbiolo grapes from various vineyards, working only with indigenous yeasts and they keep the grapes of each vineyard separated during the fermentation and wood ageing, rather than combining them during fermentation. Vineyard sourced are in the villages of Serralunga d'Alba: Baudana, of Castiglione Falletto: Villero, of Barolo: Vignane and ofNovello: Merli. Malolactic fermentation and aging take place in French oak barrels. Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored this 97 points saying "Alluring scents of blue flower, rose petal, woodland berry, baking spice and new leather take center stage along with a balsamic note of menthol. The delicious enveloping palate doles out juicy morello cherry, crushed raspberry, cinnamon and licorice framed in refined tannins and bright acidity. Its polished and already tempting but hold for even more complexity. Drink 20202038." and Vinous Media's Antonio Galloni scored this 98 points saying "Sandrone's 2013 Barolo Le Vigne is a real stunner. Powerful, ample and deep, the 2013 exudes class from start to finish. The addition of Serralunga fruit in the blend has added depth and structure in all of the wine's dimensions. Dark red cherry, plum, mint, rose petal, tar and licorice build into the huge, voluptuous finish. Readers who can find the 2013 should not hesitate, as it is outrageously beautiful and also one of the clear wines of the vintage."
