About Trump 2016 Sauvignon Blanc, Monticello

The Trump Winery in Virginia is run by Eric Trump, Wine Enthusiast Magazine's Wine Star "Rising Star of the Year". Virginia is one of America's oldest wine growing regions with no less a figure that Thomas Jefferson having planted many of the earliest vineyards. Formerly the Kluge winery, under Eric's direction Trump produces reds and whites but their sparkling wines have stood out, receiving particular accolades and awards. Vines are sheltered in the foothills of Carter's Mountain in Virginia's Blue Ridge. The Sauvignon Blanc vineyard was planted in 2006 on mid-slope Rabun clays. Sauvignon Blanc grapes were hand-harvested, hand-sorted, de-stemmed, and the whole berries were allowed to macerate in tank over night at 50F (10C) to extract some of the aromatics found within the Sauvignon Blanc skins. After 12 hours, the juice was extracted and the excess pressed out of the skins. After cold settling, the juice was fermented at low temperatures for over one month in 100% stainless steel tanks. The lees are stirred for about 3 months in tank after fermentation to improve mouthfeel. After six months of aging, the result is a wine that is both fresh and round. This vibrant Sauvignon Blanc reveals aromas of tropical fruits, citrus, and lemongrass. This wine has an exciting palate with a refreshingly crisp and clean acidity.
