Comments about Cakebread 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon, Dancing Bear Ranch, Howell Mt., Napa:
I am not usually a Cabernet drinker, but this wine has completely changed my mind. It does not "slap you in the face" but rather has enough tannins for structure and an amazing smoothness. The story of the name is also great fun: Cakebread was losing a lot of grapes from their Howell Mountain vineyard. Thinking birds or deer, they tried noisemakers, sparkling ribbons and mesh, but nothing worked. They finally set up a motion-activated video camera and captured a wonderful picture of a bear climbing over the fence and "dancing" to the vines for a feast. I can highly recommend this wine, even though its price places it in a "special occasion" category (at least for retired old me).

The cab was a perfect partner at my dinner table at Mortons where the fair was decidedly red meat of the highest order.
