Chateau La Couronne 2009 St. Emilion, Grand Cru
This Chateau is owned by the Mahler-Besse family, owners of Chateau Palmer in Margaux and many other first class wine making properties in Bordeaux and around the world. Since the acquisition of this property in 1992 the family have done everything they can to improve quality for all new modern fermentation tanks to careful replanting in the vineyard to strict triage of all the harvested grapes. his lead to the granting of Grand Cru status with the first vintage. The vines now average 25 year of age and the 65% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc are aged in 35% new oak for 12 months. The wine shows distinct Bordeaux character of black currant and cedar spice. Scored 90 by James Suckling in a barrel tasting For the Wine Spectator who noted "Full bodied,...with berry and mineral character."

Comments about Chateau La Couronne 2009 St. Emilion, Grand Cru:

If you've been drinking a lot of new world wine lately, this elegant '09 Bordeaux will remind you why variety is the spice of life. It is superbly velvety with rich red raspberry and hints of lead pencil with a nice leanness that makes it the perfect match for food. You can't do much better, especially at the price!

Comments about Chateau La Couronne 2009 St. Emilion, Grand Cru:

We first had this wine in Paris. We absolutely loved it. It is very smooth and a fine wine. It is comparable to a $150 bottle of fine wine like Opus One. Please try and enjoy!

Comments about Chateau La Couronne 2009 St. Emilion, Grand Cru:

This is really a top quality Grand Cru wine from a fantastic vintage in St. Emilion. Lots of black currant and berry on the nose with distinctive herbal notes and a chalky, mineral quality. On the palate it's round and smooth with a lot of St. Emilion terroir present, leading to an elegant finish. Drinking now but will certainly benefit from a bit of cellaring.

Opened this the other night with friends over. A lovely accompaniment to Cowgirl Creamery's Mt. Tam cheese and uncured ham.
Nicely developed for a young wine. Very drinkable!

This wine should age nicely for up to 10 years. I would expect it to reach a peak in 4-5.
