About Our Ratings

Chateau de Cruzeau 2010 Pessac-Leognan
Unlike other Bordeaux producers, André Lurton owns and personally oversees all of his properties. Considered the father of the Pessac-Leognan appellation, André Lurton is the largest land owner in that appellation and is one of the top three land holders in Bordeaux with more than 1,556 acres. Beginning in 1975, André Lurton and his team focused all their efforts on restoring Château de Cruzeau's former glory. They cleared the land, renovated buildings, planted new plots and replanted existing ones. The cellar facilities needed to be modernised as well which was also done. In 2001, an ageing cellar with a capacity of two thousand barrels was built, as well as a large reception area. Today, the estate has nearly 100 hectares of vines on beautiful south-facing gravelly rises with plenty of river stones – a terroir extremely conducive to making great red and white Pessac-Léognan wines. The wines of Château Cruzeau are widely recognized and appreciated for their great finesse. This 2010 is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot ans 2% Cabernet Franc aged 12 months in oak. The Wine Spectator scored it 91 points saying "Features a juicy, sleek feel, with a strong roasted mesquite and sanguine frame that keeps the core of damson plum, red currant and blackberry fruit moving along. The tight-grained finish has a smoldering charcoal hint. Best from 2015 through 2025."
