Ailes de Paloumey 2009 Haut-Medoc
The Cru Bourgeois Superieur Chateau Paloumey is located on Bordeaux' left bank near Classified Growths La Lagune and Cantemerle and just a mile or two from Chateaux Palmer and Marguax. In 1989 Martine Cazaneuve took over this property with prime terroir and a great history that had been ravaged by phyloxera and the world war. With vision and perseverance she achieved Cru Bourgeois Superieur status by the 2003 vintage. Ailes de Paloumey is their second label, produced from the younger vines on the estate. 59% Merlot, 29% Cabernet Sauvignon and 14% Cabernet Franc macerated up to 26 days then aged in oak barrels for 12 months. The wine was egg-white fined and bottled unfiltered. Oenologist Daniel Llose from Chateau Lynch-Bages oversees the winemaking. The 2009 vintage provided ideal conditions for beautifully ripe fruit and it shows on this supple, succulent everyday Bordeaux. It has ripe blackberry, black currant, dark chocolate and licorice flavors with hints of woodsmoke and spice on supple, polished tannins. An amazing value that you can enjoy now or cellar up to 6-8 years. Only at Wineexpress.com

Comments about Ailes de Paloumey 2009 Haut-Medoc:

I was anxious to buy and try this wine and when I did I was suprised that "It did not speak French to me" Nothing about the wine says French, no terrior, clearly fermented mostly in stainless and the nose laked both substance and provenance. However, a pleaant quaffing wine which I would expect to pay no more than $15 for.

Comments about Ailes de Paloumey 2009 Haut-Medoc:

A fairly complex nose exudes black currant, black cherry and terroir aromas which are followed by hints of mint and graphite. The palate is balanced with the right amount of acidity, dense fruit at the core and smooth tannins. Drinking like a champ now but this one will continue to improve for several years.
