Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2009 Chanson Pere et Fils
Chanson is a Burgundy estate whose history dates back to 1750. With extensive holdings in some of the regions most prized vineyards they've produced great reds and white for literally centuries. In 1999 Bollinger Champagne took over what was then a house with its glory starting to fade. Gilles Courcel of Domaine Courcel is now in charge and Jean-Jacques Confuron is the winemaker. The estate has been transformed into what is today one of the top quality producers in Burgundy. So here is a very basic but very finely crafted 2009 Bourgogne red. Grapes are sourced from their own vineyards in the Cote de Nuit and from select growers in the Cote de Beaune. The stellar '09 vintage shines through as the ripe cherry, berry flavors emerge on a framework of racy tannins with spice, wood smoke and forest floor adding to the complexity. A remarkable wine for the price. On Sale!

Comments about Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2009 Chanson Pere et Fils:

This wine is a little tight and needs to be laid down for a while. I will wait 5 months to try the next one. If it still needs more time the last one will come later. It did get better with about and hour open. The jury is still out but I'm optimistic.

Comments about Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2009 Chanson Pere et Fils:

Arrived quickly & well-packed. Though a fairly young wine it has character, beautiful clear color & a smooth finish. Could be paired with most any foods or by itself. Great value.

Comments about Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2009 Chanson Pere et Fils:

A wine like this shows you the true greatness of this 2009 vintage. What should be a fairly simple, easy drinking wine has more fruit and complexity than you would expect. Fragrant cherry, smoke and cedar are apparent and carry all the way from the nose to the finish. Food friendly and smooth, this is something to drink now and will probably even improve over the next few years.

Westchester Wine Guy, do you really pair this wine with seafood? It's a Pinot Noir Bourgogne, right? Which seafood?

                A:

Hi David... Yes, it is a Pinot Noir from Bourgogne... and yes I would certainly pair this with seafood. Probably not shellfish, but something like a pan seared tuna or Chilean sea bass would go very well with this wine. If I am going to have a red wine with seafood it's almost always Pinot.
