At the northern end of Burgundy's famous Cote de Nuits, Marsannay is the village of Marsannay. The history of Marsannay runs centuries deep, back to the 14th century when the Ducs of Bourgogne preferred Marsannay above other villages. This Marsannay, imported by Kermit Lynch, is from a single vineyard parcel owned by Regis Bouvier and many feel that Bouvierís vineyards in Marsannay are premier-cru quality (and may in fact receive that classification soon). The vines in this this Clos du Roy parcel (Vineyard of the King)averaging 40 years of age and bring low yield, concentrated, deeply flavored grapes. Fermentation is temperature-controlled and the aging is in 30% new French oak barrels for 12-14 months. Savvy buyers look to Marsannay to find amazing values and this wine from the outstanding 2010 vintage is a prime example. It's a wine that is wild and exciting while at the same time it's refined and elegant.
