Chanson is a Burgundy estate whose history dates back to 1750. With extensive holdings in some of the regions most prized vineyards they've produced great reds and white for literally centuries. In 1999 Bollinger Champagne took over what was then a house with its glory starting to fade. Gilles Courcel of Domaine Courcel is now in charge and Jean-Jacques Confuron is the winemaker. The estate has been transformed into what is today one of the top quality producers in Burgundy. So here is a very basic but very finely crafted 2011 Bourgogne red. Grapes are sourced from their own vineyards in the Cote de Nuit and from select growers in the Cote de Beaune. The overlooked 2011 vintage, as good or better than '06, '07 and '08 offers the last hope of good value Burgundy for several years to come as experts have been recently opining. This wine shows ripe cherry with earthy undertones on a framework of polished tannins. Hints of spice and wood smoke linger on the finish. Grab it while it's On Sale!
