Yardstick 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon, Ruth's Reach, Napa Valley, Goldschmidt |
 |
Ruth's Reach is a single vineyard block that Nick Goldschmidt discovered on Atlas Peak. In addition to the high altitude and good exposure which provide ample direct sunlight and cooling temperatures, particularly at night, this spot has good draining gravelly soils which make it ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes ripen slowly and take on depth and complexity. Nick ferments it slowly in temperature controlled stainless steel and then 100% Cabernet Sauvignon was aged 15 months in 100% French oak. In the Wine Advocate, Antonio Galloni wrote about the 2010 vintgae "Fans of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon will find a lot get excited about with the 2010 vintage. The 2010s are magnificent, viscerally thrilling wines loaded with character and personality." This wine is one that clearly justifies his excitement. It shows dense black current, black cherry and dark chocolate along with minerals and wood spice. Only 1,000 cases produced and this wine is an incredible value for a single vineyard Napa Cab so don't miss it.
