Antica 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley |
 |
Antica is Antinori's estate in Napa Valley high up in the Atlas Peak District. Started in 1993, the vineyards produce low-yield fruit with rich concentration and character. The grapes for this 2009 all come from the Townsend Vineyard at 1,460 feet elevation on the estate. Antinori Chief Enologist Renzo Cotarella oversees every step of from start to finish. Aging is 13 months in new French oak barrels. The Wine Advocate scored this 92 points but most impressive, the San Francisco Chronicle selected it as one of their Top Cabernets of 2012 along side greats like 2009 Dominus, 2009 Kapcsandy Family and 2009 Ridge Monte Bello. They said "The new chapter from Piero Antinori's Atlas Peak project has found its footing with a distinctive 2009. When you consider how many Cabs (and great ones, at that) that the Chronicle team must taste in a year this is high praise indeed! The Wine Advocate meanwhile, scored it 92 points saying "a gorgeous wine. Dark red fruit, licorice, smoke and tar are some of the nuances that flow from this layered, gorgeous Cabernet Sauvignon. It will almost certainly be even better in a few years’ time... should drink well to age 20 or so. On Sale!
