Volnay, Clos des Angles, Premier Cru 2009 Olivier Leflaive
The Leflaive family has been rooted in Puligny Montrachet since 1717. In 1984 Olivier Leflaive launched his own company Olivier Leflaive Frères with the help of his uncle Vincent and his brother Patrick. He quickly established his own reputation amongst Burgundy's finest. As the name implies, the Premier Cru Clos des Angles is situated in the angle between Volnay Fremiets and Volnay Clos de la Barre mid-level on the slope below the village and just south of the border with Pommard. Leflaive sources from a 9 acre parcel.
Grapes are hand harvested prior to fermentation and aging is in a combination of new and used oak barrels and stainless steel. The Wine Spectator said "This dark, brooding red offers blackberry, black currant, pepper and earth notes. This is dense, with a tight grain to its tannins, and pinched on the finish."
