Vitiano 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot/Sangiovese, IGT Umbria |
 |
Produced by Falesco in Umbria, about which the Wine Advocate says “Riccardo Cotarella’s wines at Falesco continue to deliver incredible value.” This is a great Super Tuscan style wine for everyday. Their vineyards are on hillsides 1,000 feet above sea level, so the grapes get good sun exposure and tempering effects of the altitude. This brings good development of flavors as the grapes ripen slowly. A blend of 33% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot and 34% Sangiovese, after fermentation they let the wine age for just three months in French Never oak barrels for a hint of oak character and a touch of added complexity. The Wine Advocate said "The 2010 Vitiano Rosso shows excellent balance with less of the overripe character that has been a signature of past vintages. Dark red fruit, roasted coffee beans, spices and mocha are some of the aromas and flavors that emerge from this fleshy, generous Vitiano Rosso. The fruit is beautifully layered all the way through to the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2016."
