About Our Ratings

Museum Reale Reserva 2009 Cigales
The Bodegas Museum Real is sourced from a selection of Tempranillo vines averaging between 70 and 120 years old from some of the highest (2,600ft+) hillside vineyards in the Pisuerga Valley of Cigales. Soils are dominated by sand and gravel forcing the vines deep into the subsoil for nutrients. Yields here are extremely low. Fruit is hand-picked, sorted and vinified in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine is aged for 20-24 months in new French oak barrels and then bottled without filtration and aged for an additional 18 months in bottle prior to release. The Wine Advocate scored it 91 points saying "The 2009 Museum Reserva is pure Tempranillo and sees 24 months in French oak barriques with regular lees stirring. It offers an attractive bouquet that is not as ostentatious as the label might suggest, red rather than black fruit, hints of orange blossom and apricot infusing the dark cherry and mulberry scents. The palate is fresh on the entry and immediately impresses with its fine tannins. Mocha and dark chocolate notes are sprinkled over the generous ripe black fruit, although the acidity keeps it all in check, maintaining tension and poise right to the finish. Given the size of the operation, this is an impressive Reserva that you could drink now, but it will probably age well for several years. Drink now-2020."
