The world of the 21st century wine industry can be one of high-tech, computerized winemaking. But at Redheads Studio the philosophy is Artisanship. Redheads is a place where winemakers can go and experiment with their own ideas. The winemakers involved usually have a day job and go to Redheads to be free of their own winery's restrictions. Garagiste is the French term for small batch wine made in a completely hands-on fashion and it seems to fit at Redheads, but without the lofty price tag. Wine is fermented in rain water tanks cut in half to allow open fermentation. Relationships are fostered with the regions' best growers and fruit is crushed and fermented in small batches in an old McLaren Vale bar called RedHeads. Decanter Magazine's South Australia Winemaker of the year Adam Hooper moonlights at Red Heads and this 2010 Mohawk Cab is one of his magical small lot creations. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced from vineyards on the floor of McLaren Vale and the Willunga foothills. After extended fermentation with wild yeasts it aged in American and French oak hogsheads (50% new). The result is a supple ripe Cab that shows remarkable black cherry, black currant fruit and dusted with spicy richness.A super value! Limited!

      If you like your Cabs lush, big and approachable then look no further. You can smell this one from a mile away... fragrant black cherry, plum and cassis aromas overlap the brown sugar and hints of vanilla. Lots of spice, lots of tannins that carry through from the palate to the finish. Big and rich now but will evolve and mellow out over the next few years.

        The Mohawk Cabernet is simply a delicious bottle of wine and proves, once again, what the renegade Red Heads can do with their artisan techniques. You'll find gobs of rich fruit flavors and a round mouthfeel that draws you in. I am telling you, it's tough to put the glass down!

                This wine is very well balanced and drinks beautifully now. If you cellar it we'd expect it to peak in about 5 year and continue to to drink nicely for a 2-4 years beyond that.
