George Wyndham became the father of Australian Shiraz after planting Australia’s first commercial Shiraz vineyard in 1830. Wyndham Estate BIN 555 is a multi-regional blend, with fruit sourced from Australia’s premium viticultural regions. With access to such a wide range of sources this wine is consistently fine every vintage. This 2011 won a Gold Medal at the National Wine Show of Australia, a Silver Medal and 2 Bronze Medals as well. It reflects the full, intense fruit style for which Wyndham Estate is famous. It shows aromas of plum, black pepper, dark chocolate and mocha along with subtle vanillin oak. On the palate there's ripe blackberry, plum and dark cherry and hints of spice. Fine grained, savory tannins compliment the fruit. Aged in French and American oak barrels this 2011 was created to be enjoyed young, but will also reward cellaring for 2-5 years. A super value.
No surprises here as this is typically one of the better value Aussie Shiraz wines on the market. Big lush fruit balances nicely with hints of oak and mellow tannins. For under $10 this is one of the best in its class.
