About Our Ratings

Les Chevaux 2010 Red Blend, Horse Heaven Hills, Columbia Crest
Selected as a Top 100 Outstanding Value of 2012 in Wine Spectator!

The Horse Heaven Hills vineyards are located east of the Cascade Mountain range. Up to 14,000 feet high, the mountains effectively block eastward-moving wet weather systems from the Pacific Ocean. The terrain consists of south-facing slopes that provide excellent sun exposure for grape ripening, and good air drainage which protects the vineyards during the winter months. Well-drained sandy soils have low fertility and low water-holding capacity, so the vines are low yielding and the grapes are concentrated and complex. This blend of 80% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Syrah is age 18 months in French and American oak barrels. The Wine Spectator scored the 2009 vintage 90 points. This 2010 shows blueberry, anise licorice and dark chocolate with supple tannins and a long mocha finish.

Comments about Les Chevaux 2010 Red Blend, Horse Heaven Hills, Columbia Crest:

a few years back, i got a bottle of 2008 from a friend and have been buying Les Chevaux since. i've had the 08, 09 and 10 vintages. i still have a few bottles of 08 and it seems to be aging quite well. the 08 was a little more tannic than the 09 and 10, so the 2-3 years have soften it up and its really good right now. Les Chevaux is a nice red blend of mainly cab sauv, merlot & syrah. fairly complex with nice layers of dark fruit, chocolate, marmalade and very drinkable. love to open a bottle when i get home and just have a glass. i like it with any kind of blue cheese, gorgonzola garlic bread is killer with it. also, any kind of harthy meat dish, spicy food - think thai or chinese, possibly curry (although i haven't tried that myself)
