The Apalta Vineyard is the gem of the Lapostolle estate in Chile's Colchagua Valley. Surounded on three sides by hills and a river on the other it has its own unique micro-climate. Planted back in 1920 it also has deeply rooted grapevines averaging 60 years old that provide low yields of less that 2 tons per acre and grapes with deep complex flavors. The Cuvee Alexandre Cabernet is sourced from this vineyard and every vintage it excels in both quality and value! The Wine Spectator scored this 2010 92 points saying "This dark red balances racy wild berry and cassis notes with full yet fine tannins, with layers of toasty oak, smoke and baking spice. Polished, with a long, savory aftertaste of spice, cured olive and underbrush."

Wonderful vintage for the Cuvee Alexandre Cab. Forward up front with beautiful aromas of blackberry, cassis and smoked cedar. It's rather polished and refined on the palate balancing acidity, firm tannins, concentrated fruit and dark spices. The finish is off dry and fruit filled with a spicy note left behind. Killer value for a Cab of this quality.

This is a good example of Chilean cabernet. Big, bold, fruit forward style with hint of spiceness. Pairs well with grilled red meats and cheese. This is one of Casa's mid level cabs and an excellent value for the price.

Q:
What would you say the aging potential is for this wine?, I have not seen much regarding the Argentine or Chiliean wines as too their aging potential, am I correct to assume they are simaliar to California wines, does the climate south of the Equator make for a different aging potental? Thanks

  It's somewhat similar to a CA Cab in that it's forward and ready to drink now but it has structure for aging. We'd expect it to continue to show well and develop for 4-5 years.
