The O, which stands for opportunity, is exactly what founders Stacy Lill and Kathy Johanson were seeking to provide when they conceived the brand in 2006. Previously available only in the Northwest, the mission of O Wines is to fund scholarships for low-income, high-potential young women. Since 2008, O Wines has raised $125,000 and funded more than 40 scholarships to students, most of whom are the first among their family members to attend college. Ste. Michelle Wine Estates acquired O Wines in September 2012 with the intent to build the brand and its scholarship fund. Winemaker Katie Nelson creates the O Wines Chardonnay using grapes sourced from prime vineyards in Washington state’s Columbia Valley. Just a hint of aok aging addes to the complexity. This refreshing Chard shows aromas of pear and baking spices then ripe pear, apple and peach on the palate with hints of vanilla.
