Michel Torino 2011 Malbec, Don David, Finca la Maravilla #6, Cafayate Vly.
Two French brothers, David and Salvador Torino, founded Michel Torino back in 1892. Today, Michel Torino is the considered the most important winery in Argentina's Cafayate Valley with its rugged high-dessert terrain in the country's northwest. The estate owns over 1500 acres of vineyards standing at the extreme elevations of 5500-6600 feet above sea level. This wine, an homage to the founder, is a boutique offering sourced entirely from a single estate parcel sitting at approximately 6,200 feet in elevation. Soils here are dry and poor made up with a majority of crushed rock. 350 days of sunshine annually along with extreme day/night temperature variations ensure that each vine yields high quality, concentrated, ripe fruit. The wine is aged for 15 months in 80% new American and French oak barrels. Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored it 92 points saying "After years of tasting Don David Malbecs, here’s one that rises above the rest. This is jammy and stacked with brawny black-fruit aromas. The mouth is bulky and bullish, but balanced, with blackberry flavors that are coated with copious oak and end in a tornado of coffee, mocha, mint and oak. Drink now–2016."

Comments about Michel Torino 2011 Malbec, Don David, Finca la Maravilla #6, Cafayate Vly.:

If you like you Malbecs subtle and easy drinking, then this one is not for you. But if you prefer a big Malbec with lots of dark fruit, baking spice, oak and tannins then you do not want to let this one pass you by! And even with all of the dense fruit and oak integration, lots of balance and structure in this beauty.
