From California to Maine comes this bracing and succulent white wine that is the perfect match for lobster, shrimp and seafood. Conceived by seasoned wine professional, vintner and seafood lover, Steven Melchiskey who resides in the lobster capitol of the world, Portland Maine. He teamed up and tasted with lobstermen, chefs and sommeliers to create this blend of California varietals including, Sauvignon Blanc, Grenache Blanc and Gewurztraminer that brings lobster to a new level. So next time you're tying on your bib and and melting the butter make sure you've got a bottle of Big Claw chilled and ready. A portion of the proceeds from all sales of Big Claw are donated to the Lobster Institute based at the University of Maine, furthering research and outreach. Get your claws on this one!

    We ordered six bottles of Big Claw on a recommendation that this blend is the "new Conumdrum". Our first experience with the wine was not overwhelmingly positive. We paired the wine with a shrimp dish (since the bottle boasts how well it pairs with seafood). Not impressed - but perhaps the lemon in the dish, coupled with the tartness of the wine, created an imbalance. Next, we paired the wine with a Thai red curry chicken dish with various vegetables. Spot on. Complemented both the wine and the meal.

    Clean, tart, crisp, smooth. Notes of green apple and unripe stone fruit. Nice palette cleanser for spicy/spiced food.

                          This is a wonderful wine to share with friends or to unwind after work. Great in the summer time with some cheese. Very good with seafood! It does compare favorably with Conundrum - not quite as good but getting there for 1/2 the price.
