Josh Cellars 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon, North Coast, Joseph Carr |
 |
When Joseph Carr wanted to create a second wine after his famed Napa Cabernet he worked with vineyard owner Tom Larson and sourced a high altitude vineyard in the Red Hills appellation. Organically grown and sustainably farmed for 10 years, the vineyard is in a region that sits at the highest section between the Mayacamas and Vaca mountains. An eastern facing slope above 1,200 feet brings full sunlight that's tempered by the cool, cool nights. Grapes ripen slowly and fully, with richness and complexity. The wine is vinified just like his Napa Cab and then aged in French and American oak 16 months. It shows bold flavors of black currant, black cherry and spice with supple tannins and a lingering finish. A seriously good value!
