Forefront by Pine Ridge 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon
Pine Ridge winery makes stellar Cabs from their vineyards in the Stags Leap District of Napa Valley. Branching out to the slightly more affordable realm, they’ve created Forefront. The grapes actually come primarily from Napa(94%), and you’ll taste that immediately, but they’re sourcing additional fruit including Syrah from Lake County and Petit Verdot to give this wine some real zip. The blend goes like this: 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot and 3% Syrah. The lots were all vinified separately and aged in 50% new French oak barrels for 17 months. It shows lush flavors of blackberry, plum, cedar and mocha, with the character and complexity you’d expect on a wine costing twice the price. On Sale!

              While Pine Ridge is best known for their high end Napa Cabs, this value version is really solid all around. With fruit sourced from various locations, it offers rather concentrated blackberry and plum aromas with nice hints of spice and vanilla. It is a fruit focused wine that lands softly on the palate and finishes off dry leaving behind those black fruit flavors. Great value indeed.
