Purple is Malbec from France where Malbec originated. Cahors is just south of Bordeaux and Chateau Lagrezette has produced exceptional Malbec there for centuries. This particular wine is new for the Chateau and made in a forward style that's extremely appealing. Consulting Enologist Michel Rolland works closely with the estate on this and all of their wines. The Chateau has just completed a renovation to the winery creating an all-new modern state-of-the-art facility. Grapes for Purple are sourced from estate vines averaging 15 years of age. This 100% Malbec is fermented in stainless steel, temperature controlled to retain the grape's brightness and vibrancy. This 2012 is just released. The Wine Spectator said about the 2011 "Concentrated dark plum and blackberry flavors are fresh and lively in this full-bodied red. Dark chocolate notes accent the finish. Drink now through 2016." A steal!
We tried one bottle and it was very disappointing. It was flat, mildly acidic, with little finish. Not pleasing to say the least. Even after letting it breath, it did not improve. We dumped the rest and called Wine Express. They were happy to credit us without question. We will let this cellar for a while to see if there is improvement. We do not recommend this at this time. To be fair, we only tried one bottle. We will wait and see again.
