Di Majo Norante is a wine estate of some 200 acres in the Molise region of Italy. Molise lies between Abruzzo and Pugila on the Adriatic coast. The family has produced wine since the 1800’s and is committed to producing first quality wines from indigenous grapes. This is a blend of 80% Montepulciano and 20% Aglianico sourced from the 45 acre Ramitello vineyard. Vines average about 25 years of age. Winemaker Ricardo Coltarella works to limit yields and bring in concentrated, richly flavored fruit. Aging is in Allier oak barrels for 18 months. The Wine Advocate scored it 91 points saying "The 2009 Ramitello is a blend of 80% Montepulciano and 20% Aglianico that sees 18 months in French oak. Layers of smoke, grilled herbs, menthol and minerals are overlayed on a core of black fruit. The Ramitello shows serious power and intensity all the way through to the palate staining finish. Floral notes add lift and freshness on the close. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025."
