Alto Las Pizarras 2005 Old Vine Garnacha, Calatayud, Bodegas Y Vinedos del Jalon
Bodegas y Viñedos del Jalón has 2400 acres of vineyards, concentrated in the southern part of the Calatayud region, extend from the River Jalón to the north, deep into the Ibérian mountain range to the south. These vineyards are situated at altitudes of between 2000 and 3300 feet with the higher sites dominated by Old-Vine Garnacha. That’s where the name and the grapes come from for this bold red wine. 100% Garnacha from vines 70 to 100 years old hand harvested. The wine aged in new French oak barrels for 11 months. The Wine Advocate scored it 93 points saying "The 2005 Alto Las Pizarras takes things to a still higher level. A selectión of the best lots was put into 100% new French oak to complete malolactic where it remained until recent bottling. Toasty oak, black fruits and espresso roast aromas are followed by a full-bodied wine with supple, sweet cherry and black fruit flavors with no hard edges. Put this beauty in the cellar for 3-5 years and drink it over the following 15." Don't miss it while it's On Sale!!!

      Very Nice Bottle of Wine!! Recommend Highly.... Smooth, Great Texture and Color. Drinks Well, I would bet a good Steak or Chocolate would bring out the wine even better!! Excited to open my second bottle soon.

        My husband likes a glass of red wine when he comes home after work. We are not connosieurs, but he does enjoy this wine and that is the important thing. We would buy this wine again.

        Our only complaint has been that every cork has split when we opened the bottle, which is very unusual.

            This one took me by surprise as I was not expecting such an intricate and well balanced wine. While the dark fruit and aromatic spices lead the way, there is real structure and harmony to this wine from start to finish. It's seamless on the palate with mellow tannins and nice acidity leading to a spice and fruit filled long finish. No need to cellar, this gem is drinking right now!
