Chateau Ste. Michelle 2012 Riesling, Cold Creek Vyd., Columbia Valley
Winner of 3 Silver Medals and one Double Gold Medal from the Long Beach Grand Cru, Critics Challenge Wine Competition and more.
From the producer of #68 On the Wine Spectator Top 100 2013! Planted in 1973, Cold Creek Vineyard remains one of the most exceptional vineyards in the Columbia Valley. The weak soil at Cold Creek – a silty loam - contributes significantly to the "old vine" intensity of the fruit. Cold Creek is also one of the warmest and driest sites in the state. The warm temperatures keep the berries small, adding intensity to the grapes at harvest. From 30 year old vines this wine delivers a ripe, lush style of Riesling with aromas of ripe peaches, dried apricots and spice notes. It displays beautiful fruit intensity with a crisp finish. Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored it 92 points saying
"Despite a price bump this remains a superb value. In a portfolio loaded with excellent Rieslings—Ste. Michelle remains the largest Riesling producer in the world—this wine consistently offers the most structure and detail. A perfect balance between sugar (19.8 g/L) and acid is the foundation."
