Wente 2012 Sauvignon Blanc, Louis Mel, Livermore Valley
Wente's estate vineyards in the Livermore Valley are a prime location for Sauvignon Blanc. Warm temperatures are balanced by the cooling breezes off of the San Francisco Bay. Louis Mel came to California from France in the 1800's with vine cuttings from the famed Chateau D'Yquem in Bordeaux. The Wente's acquired the Mel estate in the 1930's and the sustainably grown vines on the estate today are descendants of those original cuttings. The 2011, named for Monsieur Mel scored 90 points and Best Buy in Wine Enthusiast Magazine who said "Wente remains remarkably adept at making very good wines in big volumes at fair prices. This is a textbook example - a crisp, layered and complex SB that's as floral as spring, generous in acidity and lemony on the finish. Pair with shellfish, chicken or goat cheese on crackers."
