Joseph Carr 2011 Chardonnay, Sonoma Coast
For this 2011 Chardonnay, Joseph Carr worked with celebrated winemaker Aaron Pott who was named Food & Wine Magazine's 2012 Wine Maker of the Year! They had known one another for many years and the opportunity arose to work together in producing this very limited Chardonnay. They sourced all of the fruit for this 2011 from Tom Larsonís Estate Vineyard and used 100% new French oak barrel fermentation as well as sur lie aging. Aaron chose 100% malolactic fermentation, which created a full and luscious wine, yet elegantly balanced, reminiscent of those French style Burgundian wines they both love and respect. This is a very limited production wine, with less than 3,000 cases produced. Wine Enthusiast Magazine made it an Editors Choice and scored it 90 points saying "Good price for a Chardonnay this opulent. It doesnít pull any punches, offering full-throttle pineapple, Meyer lemon, butterscotch, toast and vanilla flavors, in a creamy texture. The richness fortunately is balanced with crisp, bright acidity."

Comments about Joseph Carr 2011 Chardonnay, Sonoma Coast:

Notes of pineapple jump out on the nose, layering on typical Chard aromas of apple and some buttery qualities. On the palate it's rich but nicely restrained with an impeccable balance. It's so superbly drinkable, you'll want to have more than a few bottles on hand for the end of Summer, I guarantee it!

Comments about Joseph Carr 2011 Chardonnay, Sonoma Coast:

I purchased a case based on the strength of the reviews, hoping this might be a good "everyday" chardonnay we would enjoy. The first bottle must have been flawed, as this had a very bitter and unpleasant aftertaste. The second bottle was better, but not as "sumptuous" or rich as the reviews let on. A very average California chardonnay: heavy oak and pineapple, with maybe some lemon citrus.
