Cotes du Rhone Villages 2009 Cuvee Centenaire, Domaine La Grand Ribe |
 |
This small Domaine in the Southern Rhone grows all of its grapes organically. This wine is a blend of Grenache and Syrah from their oldest vines averaging 75 years of age. Fermented slowly in large oak vats to bring out the dense, full flavors this wine shows charcter beyond its modest appellation In fact Robert Parker said "The blockbuster 2009 Côtes-du-Rhône-Villages Centenaire tastes more like a Chateauneuf du Pape than a Côtes-du-Rhône. Dominated by Grenache with a small amount of Syrah included in the blend, the wine possesses great intensity, a terrific texture, full-bodied power, and wonderful purity and Provencal typicity. This sensational effort is filled with red and black fruit, roasted herb, barbecue smoke, meat juice and bouquet garni characteristics. Enjoy it over the next 7-8 years or longer (2010-2018)." His score is 91-93, we think 93 sounds about right. Don't miss it!
