About Our Ratings

Taylor Fladgate 2007 LBV Port
Taylor Fladgate is considered by many to be the Chateau Latour of Port. Always firmly structured and richly endowed, this Late Bottled Vintage 2007 is a prime example of the signature house style. Rated 90 points by Wine Enthusiast Magazine who said "Initially the tannins dominate, but then ripe, sweet jelly and juicy fruit shows through, giving the wine its main character. There is some firm tannin, but the wine enjoys generous sweetness."

  • Q:

What does tannin mean? And what exactly does late bottled vintage mean and how does it differ from regular vintage ports.

      A:

Tannin is an astringent compound found in many species of plants. It is what can give a full-bodied dry red wine a slightly bitter characteristic to is. A wine rich in tannin is usually one that can be aged or cellared for a longer amount of time than one that has less tannin.

A lated bottle vintage port is one that was originally to be a vintage port but was kept in the barrell longer then the regular vintage port for that year & eventually released as a late bottle vintage with that extra bit of bottle age.
