About Our Ratings

Sandeman 20 year Reserve Tawny Port
Tawny Ports are some of the most exquisite and delicious of all. To make this 20 Year Reserve Tawny specially selected port wines were chosen for ageing in wooden casks, which concentrates their flavor and the color matures from deep ruby to amber. The wine is racked before bottling so in needs no decanting to be enjoyed. This Tawny was an Editors Choice, scoring 91 points from Wine Enthusiast Magazine who said "An elegant tawny, perfumed with soft tannins and a good edge of wood acidity and spirit. The wine is dry, densely flavored, tasting mature, showing a good balance between young sweetness and age, with everything well integrated." and Decanter Magazine scored it 96 with a Gold Medal in their 2016 World Wine Awards. They said "Beautiful complexity on the nose with its full, dense fruit cake character, and woody, spicy notes of dried fruit, nuts and caramel. Sweet and mouth-filling, with a creamy texture on the palate of delicious candied fruit, nuts, quince, marmalade, dried flowers, leather and fragrant peach."

worth every penny
While not an avid consumer of wines in general, I have found an enjoyment for Porto, I found this 20 yr tawney exceptionally smooth and tasty.

The nicest Tawny Port I have had recently.

Recommended by my waiter and fell in love with it...
I had been drinking a Madeira or Moscato sometimes but while out one night on date night, I asked the waiter for a Madeira like suggestion and he recommended this Sandeman 20 Tawny Port. It was perfect for my meal of filet mignon and I was hooked. I have ordered it multiple times and recommend it any chance I get. I takes a somewhat educated palate but please do not be afraid. It has hints of apricot, pecan, an every so slight almond hint and a little peppery note at the end. I have since found it at a couple of our finer restaurants, so nice to see. I will continue to enjoy this beautiful wine.

With what food is Tawny Port most complimentary?
null on Feb 24, 2012
BEST ANSWER: Tawny port is sweet and often has nutty overtones. Pair it with desserts like creme brulee or nutty toffee date cakes.
I have a bottle of Imperial 20 yr old Tawny Port. The date bottled is 1988. Is it still ok to drink?
A shopper on Apr 15, 2017
BEST ANSWER: That sounds awesome! Of course, the answer to your question greatly depends on how the bottle was stored throughout all these years. If the bottle was properly stored in a cellar or wine refrigerator since 1988 the chances of it being in good condition are much higher than if it was stored in a hot environment or a place with big temperature fluctuations. We hope it turns out great, Cheers!
