BV Tapestry Reserve 2008 Napa Valley

Tapestry Reserve was created so that Beaulieu Vineyards, with their prime Napa Estate vineyard land could produce a world class Cabernet-based Bordeaux blend. The winemaking team now consists of Jeffrey Stambor with Consulting Enologist Michel Rolland and they have been making amazing strides. This bold 2008 come on the heels of a phenomenal 2007 which received wide acclaim. A blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, 3% Malbec and 2% Petit Verdot. The wine is aged in 50% new oak barrels; 73% French, 27% American. The Wine Spectator scored it 91 points saying "Blends ripe, fleshy plum and black cherry flavors with a subtle backbone of acidity and tannins. Slow to unfold, but does so gracefully, revealing dusty earth, cedar and black licorice in an elegant style. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. This is a big, full bodied red that I could have mistaken for a Sonoma Cabernet. The initial impression was that it was somewhat medicinal. After opening up, the Meritage character comes through.

This yummy wine could certainly be shared with friends over dinner, but when we have it, we drink it as our everyday wine at home. We love big cabs, and this one fits the bill beautifully. This is our 'go to' wine and it's always a sad day when we run out of 'our' Tapestry!

  This wine has actually not been rated as of yet, but the 2007 received 93 from WS and 92 from WE... so we are expecting some good things! The nice part about the Tapestry is that it can be enjoyed now if you like your wines big and fruit forward, but will gain structure and complexity over the next 5-10 years.
