Podere Poggio Scalette 2009 Capogatto, IGT Alta Valle della Greve
After the death of the previous owner, Podere Poggio Scalette remained abandoned for years until Vittorio Fiore (one of Italy's most famed winemakers) and his wife Adriana discovered the property in 1991. Located in Geve in the highest altitudes at the heart of the Chianti Classico zone. Only 170 cases of this wine were produced. It's a blend of very low yield Bordeaux varietals; 25% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Cabernet Franc and 25% Petit Verdot, aged in French oak barrels for 18 months. Wine Spectator scored it 96 points saying "What perfume, with haunting violet, black currant, cherry, pepper and light spice aromas that are pure and expressive. On the palate, this is refined and elegant, with intensity and great harmony. The structure shows on the finish, which will support this red through the next decade and beyond. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Best from 2014 through 2025."
