The Calling 2011 Chardonnay, Dutton Ranch, Russian River Valley
The Calling is a collaboration between Jim Nantz the famous golf and sports commentator (who also happens to be a HUGE wine enthusiast) and importer Peter Deutsch. And this is a classic Chardonnay, this 2011 vintage was blended from select Dutton Ranch vineyards in the prestigious Russian River Valley appellation. Barrel fermentation and sur lie aging have created a rich and smooth wine with subtle hints of oak and crisp flavors of Meyer lemon, honeydew melon and juicy white nectarine. The grapes were hand sorted and gently whole cluster pressed directly into 60% new and 40% once used French oak barrels. The wine was fermented with 100% native yeast. After fermentation the wine went through 100% malolactic fermentation and was aged sur lies for 12 months. The 2010 scored 93 points from Tasting Panel Magazine who said "Silky and elegant with lovely texture and pure, articulate fruit; great finesse and style with layers of complexity and charming style."
