Roureda Llicorella 2005 Priorat, Cellers Unio |
 |
The wines of Priorat in Norteastern Spain are a reflection of the rugged terrain in combination with the old vines found there. The vines struggle and the the grapes are small and packed with intense flavor and dimension. This wine is a blend of 40% Garnacha, 40% Mazuelo and 20% Syrah. The grapes are barrel aged separately for the right balance of oak and flavor. This 2005 has had a nice opportunity for the tannins to mature and soften, making it silky and lush. Wine Spectator scored this ripe red 91 points saying "This red is light and crisp, yet has plenty of structure to power its raspberry, licorice and mountain herb flavors. Focused and lively, with a floral, spicy finish. Drink now through 2013."
