The Executioner 2008 Shiraz/Cabernet Sauvignon Blend, Victoria, Shinas Estate |
 |
Shinas Estate is situated in the northwest region of Victoria, known for its Mediterranean-like climate. The first vines were planted on the estate in 1898. With eight generations of grape growing and wine producing experience, they offer some of the most outstanding wines in Australia and this wine is their flagship. The Executioner is a blend of 55% Shiraz, 43% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Viognier from the oldest vines on the estate, averaging 50 years of age. Yields were barley 1 ton per acre, so these are very concentrated and deeply flavored grapes. The wine is aged 30 months in French oak barrels, 25% new. It shows a complex, perfumed bouquet of blackcurrant, cherry-vanilla, pipe tobacco and spring flowers. On the palate it's spicy and dense with dark fruit flavors, notes of black plums and cardamom. The spice notes linger on the finish for incredible length. This is pure power and splendor. Don't miss it!
