Wente 2013 Sauvignon Blanc, Louis Mel, Livermore Valley
Wente's estate vineyards in the Livermore Valley are a prime location for Sauvignon Blanc. Warm temperatures are balanced by the cooling breezes off of the San Francisco Bay. Louis Mel came to California from France in the 1800's with vine cuttings from the famed Chateau D'Yquem in Bordeaux. The Wente's acquired the Mel estate in the 1930's and the sustainably grown vines on the estate today are descendants of those original cuttings. The 2012, named for Monsieur Mel scored 89 points in Wine Enthusiast Magazine who said "A crisp, linear Sauvignon Blanc, with tantalizing flavors of tangerine, that's bright, clean and easy to like. On the finish, the tangerine evolves into melon and lime. This wine will sit well on tables set for brunch or a seafood feast."
