Gnarly Head 2010 Authentic Red Blend, Lodi
Old Zinfandel vines with thick, twisted gnarled trunks and canes shooting up and out in all directions are the inspiration for Gnarly Head. This is a new wine from them, and it's already won awards in four different competitions; silver and gold medals in the Indy International Wine Competition, the San Diego International Wine Competition, the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition and the San Francisco International Wine Competition. It's a red blend with old vine Zin as its core. The grapes are sourced from vineyards in Lodi, primarily the Mokelumne River area, where 35 to 80 year old vines are hand-harvested for this rich, dense, jammy Zin. The blend is 50% Zinfandel, 20% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petite Sirah, 3% Syrah and the wine is aged in a combination of French and American oak barrels, giving it a distinct spiciness to complement the massively juicy core of ripe fruit flavors. It's mouth-filling and rich and of course coming form Gnarly Head, it's a great value!

Comments about Gnarly Head 2010 Authentic Red Blend, Lodi:

Known for their value Zin, Gnarly Head has come up with a great blend here that scores high on the QPR scale. Lots of blueberry, peppery spice, black cherry and chocolate on the nose. It's a fruit driven wine with pleasant subtleties finishing smooth and lush. A no brainer at this price.

Comments about Gnarly Head 2010 Authentic Red Blend, Lodi:

I discovered Authentic Red on a Gnarly Head post on facebook. Tried it and instantly liked it. It is very flavorful, just the right amount of fruitiness without being sweet. It is now my everyday house wine.
